Job description
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how millions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our ambitions reach far beyond just Search. Our products need to handle information at the scale of the web. We're looking for ideas from every area of computer science, including information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, and user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you work on a small team and can switch teams and projects as our fast-paced business grows and evolves. We need our engineers to be versatile and passionate to tackle new problems as we continue to push technology forward.
The size and scope of Google's data centers β and the devices that fill them β mean there is never a simple, off-the-shelf solution for our global computer. Our mission is to build the tools that make it possible to plan, deploy, monitor and manage the data facilities, networks and machines that power every Google product and service. We operate in a challenging environment. We're looking for entrepreneurial software engineers to help solve the problems we face. As a developer on our team, you are responsible for designing, developing and deploying mission critical applications. You are a generalist software engineer with interests in API design, high-performance Remote Procedure Call (RPC) services, front-end or back-end web application development and complex data management.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with end users and partner with customers to design the best solutions.
Develop reliable, readable and maintainable code.
Work at multiple layers of the application, both front-end and back-end.
Area
Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We're always on call to keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
Skills & requirements
Minimum qualifications
BA/BS degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience with object-oriented software design and programming in C++, Python, and/or Go.
Experience with web application frameworks and JavaScript UI frameworks (Google Web Toolkit, jQuery, Closure).
Experience with API design and service layer architectures.
Preferred qualifications
Experience in designing robust software applications.
Ability to be an entrepreneurial engineer who strives to understand Google's toughest problems and proposes creative solutions.
Knowledge of multiple Google data storage backends.
